For Hornaday Park Campground: Campground has been indefinitely closed due to squatters moving in and insufficient police manning to enforce payment rules. The only city campgrounds now are on the Homer spit. The Karen Hornady park/playground remains open.

For Hornaday Park Campground: This campground is just ok. You can find some spots with great views and some tucked away. Sites are unlevel and tight - I wouldn't negotiate this with a big rig but our 20' Airstream fit just fine. It did appear as if some folks in tents may have been staying beyond the allotted limit - long term. It's a good alternative to the windy, crowded, wide open parking lots that are considered camping on the spit, but we didn't love this campground. And, it seems prices are high for what you get.

For Hornaday Park Campground: Hornaday is perched on a hill above Homer. It is fairly small with about half the sites OK for RVs. The road is gravel and steep in places and the sites are a bit in even. It takes some maneuvering to land. All of that being said it is a beautiful camp with breathtaking views of the bay and snow capped mountains beyond. It is right in town and the spit is very accessible. There is a city dump station ($2) and water on the way to the spit so we emptied and filled up before we parked our 26' fifth wheel.

We looked at the camp grounds on the spit but saw them as windy, noisy and just gravel lots.
