For Pine Mountain Lake Campground: This place was nearly perfect for us. We were here in mid Oct and just visiting relatives and going to Yosemite so the lack of “activities” was fine by us. The site(5) was long and level although some are not. The road in the campground was narrow and very steep. We did ok but be ware! Also we came on CA 120 from Stockton and the “new” priest road is VERY STEEP, very twisty and scary! All in all a great place to hangout. We were alone nearly all 3 days. The park is patrolled and all staff very helpful

For Pine Mountain Lake Campground: Fairly convenient to Yosemite. Folks I talked to on the phone, both for reservation and security were pleasant and helpful. Frequent security patrols. Reasonably priced, especially for one week stay. Quiet. Driveway is steep and can make backing in to your site a challenge, especially the sites further in. Electric and water utilities are on the wrong side some of the sites. Site 2 I would only recommend for a single axle travel trailer. Site 4 would be OK for a small trailer or class B.

Tyler

For Pine Mountain Lake Campground: Campground was quiet and shady. Had to check in at the main gate. Road construction meant I had to drive through the community to get to the campground I recommend choosing sites 1-3, 5 or 6. 4 was narrow and included a gravel covered hill.7-10 were on a steep downslope. Space was mostly level and gravel covered.

J&W

For Pine Mountain Lake Campground: This is a pretty, small campground with lots of oak trees and a seasonal creek running through it. A few miles of trails begin on-site. RV and tent sites. It is usually empty. So why don't more people use it?
There's just not a lot to do here unless you have access to Pine Mountain Lake, a gated community that owns this campground - you don't get access to the lake, etc, by staying in the campground - you have to be a resident or guest. It's on the way to Yosemite, but just far enough that it doesn't make a great base camp (about 25 miles from gate, 50 miles from valley).
The small town of Groveland is just down the road so you do get access to some good restaurants and a market, but not a lot else. Fine for en-route stays, but not a good destination on its own.
There is usually no staff on-site, but the community has its own security staff that keeps an eye on things. I don't recall if you can still register at an "iron ranger" on site, or if you have to check in at the main community gate, 2 miles down the road.
Good for families, but partiers would be advised to go elsewhere - residents live close by and do not tolerate rowdies.
3 stars for campground itself, minus 1 for location and lack of variety of activities.

For Pine Mountain Lake Campground: Focus on lot owners here as a business so the campground gets some rough treatment. Staff is terrible and almost wants to make it harder on you to do anything here. Might be okay if they changed management attitude.
