For Lincolns New Salem State Historic Site Campground: You would think with the numbers of people that come to this camp ground that the bathrooms and showers would be nicer. They are nasty. In the men’s 3 showers and one doesn’t work. In the handicapped shower only the hand sprayer worked and it was leaking real bad. I would feel sorry for a handicapped person that tried to use it. The bench in it was missing the boards and the screws were exposed. In the stalls were enough spiders to start a horror movie. Come on with the amount of taxes these people pay in this state there is no reason for this. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The only factor it has going for it is seeing the old log cabins. No store no restaurant nothing else. They’re also charging out of state people more to stay. Other states want tourism to make money. I guess Illinois isn’t one of them.

For Lincolns New Salem State Historic Site Campground: Great location for both enjoying Lincoln history and camping. While we only had 30amp service we were comfortable due to wonderful cooler temps. Gets busy on weekends but everyone seemed very respectful of others. A larger group was camped across from us with two large tents and several children.... We hardly knew they were there. Very pleasant! We spent time in Springfield both days we camped here and thoroughly enjoyed learning more about our 16th President. The New Salem Historic Site that is immediately adjacent to the campgrounds is a great place to start your history lesson.
It was easy in/out of the campground with a back exit to bypass the historical site traffic. SItes were paved and most were fairly level. There are a few 50 amp sites and even though some were available we chose ours for satellite purposes.... which we never used. Too busy!! Verizon signal was sufficient to use my hotspot for laptop work and phone calls. Good OTA channels for the little tv we did watch. $20/night. We enjoyed driving through neighboring Petersburg only 2 miles away, and around Petersburg Lake which could be easily accessed from the campground. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

For Lincolns New Salem State Historic Site Campground: I lived 2 blocks from this park in 1975. I have NEVER known it to be a KOA! Reconstructed village - Abe Lincoln lived here when he became a lawyer. Hal Holbrook and Elizabeth Montgomery were the stars in 'The Awakening Land' that was filmed there.

We will be visiting there the first part of Sept. to attend the Bluegrass Festival. Will add a current campground review after visit!
