For Governor Thompson State Park: Governor Thompson State Park is a very nice campground. The toilets/showers were by far the best we have experienced since we began full timing four months ago. This park was built in 2000; the facilities are modern and beautifully designed. The 100 sites were either entirely in the shade or partially shaded, separated by generous privacy vegetation. Only 16 sites have electricity, none have water/sewer. Most appeared to be level or fairly level. The campground loops are three miles past the ranger office, and the boat launch was a little farther along. Woods Lake, close to the office, was only for non-motorized craft. Nice! The only negative for us was at the dump station. The non-potable water hose used to rinse the black and gray tanks had a raw end. The male hose fitting needed to attach to our trailer’s rinse port was missing. We reported this apparent vandalism to the park manager with a photo. The manager told us the raw hose end was intentional and required by the health department. We were further informed dump stations in all Wisconsin State Parks had raw hose ends to rinse holding tanks. At our next Wisconsin State Park campground we found the normal male hose fitting at the dump station. No raw hose end. We paid $33/night, the $8 online reservation fee, plus the required Wisconsin park pass: non-resident annual $38 or daily $11. We plan to return, despite the somewhat remote location.

For Governor Thompson State Park: We stayed for a long weekend, we were lucky to get one of the walk-in electric sites. The park is new, so everything is up to date and the road in is very nice. Everything is well maintained and people very nice. Most sites are pretty level and large with enough area in between for privacy. We definitely will be coming back.
