For Newport Park Campground: We felt lucky to score a three-month winter reservation in a big rig site with full hooks, but we left after our first month. There are long-term tenters and some in homemade campers, but all were nice people. The camp host and his wife were friendly and easy going, but first impressions were of political statements on her face mask and clothing. Our favorite part of our stay was the proximity to one of the best paved bicycle trails ever! We also enjoyed sightseeing trips to nearby attractions, walks in the wildlife preserve, etc. The only drawback to a long-term stay is the weak cellular, and the Covid-scoffing, passive-aggressive attitudes of the Post Office folks in town. If the campground folks would have given the okay to receive mail, it would have been almost perfect, but packages only allowed. We would go back again, but only if site 12 was available. It's the best fit for big rig, and easy to leave, if one goes out the wrong way. It did take careful maneuvering to get in place, but it is doable in a 43-footer.

For Newport Park Campground: Definitely some permanent residents. One guy had a tv on in his tent all night. Annoying. Another ladies dog barked for three straight hours in the morning. Annoying. Boardwalk to river is beautiful. Big trees! Close to saint marks which is EPIC. An absolutely must see in the armpit of Florida. Recorded 45 bird species there in February! Catch a sunset. Breath some salty air. Brace the permanent residence.

Nomadic

For Newport Park Campground: This was my first time camping at a state/county park so I really didn’t know what to expect. Let’s start with the pros; Pros -Nice shaded sites with lots of room. -Close to boat ramp for Saint Marks River. -Platform/dock for fishing. If you like mullet, this is the place. -Close to the Saint Marks Lighthouse. -Very quiet and peaceful. -The bar/restaurant across the bridge looks like a dive but the food is great and they have some awesome priced daily specials. Live music on Sundays. Cons -There was trash everywhere. A used tampon applicator was lying in the road the entire time I was there. The camp host cut the grass and used a blower but did nothing but blow the applicator further down the road. An empty can of beans sat on top of a grill the entire time I was there, at a vacant site and the trash at the fishing platform was over flowing. -The bathroom trash was overflowing when I got there but was emptied the next day. The bathrooms were disgusting and were not cleaned the entire time I was there. If you use the showers, shower shoes are a must. -Most fire rings were full of ashes and some with trash. -All the full hookups were taken by people who appeared to be using the entire 180 days and maybe more 🤔 -I didn’t see the host until later in the second day and he seemed non-existent for the most part. He was nowhere to be found when I arrived and no note informing arriving campers as to his whereabouts or when to expect him back. Overall, if you are looking for a quick stop this is not a bad option but it does have its flaws. It has a few full hookups and w/e and then the rest are primitive sites. Space is limited for big rigs. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. I would stay again if passing through but probably not for an extended stay.

Robert Vaughn

For Newport Park Campground: We were on our way to a funeral in Pensacola and planned to stop here overnight. When we got there it was filled with road construction crew workers. There was one pull thru site and was about 100' long and there was a VW microbus camper in it, so we left in our 5th wheel.

WALLE

For Newport Park Campground: Decent campground. Perfectly situated to explore st.marks nwr and Edward Ball parks. Drive out to the lighthouse in st. Marks for some of the sweetest air you will breathe. Take a boat tour in Edward Ball to see manatees in prehistoric landscape. Campground was $11 for a rustic site. Great deal

For Newport Park Campground: Cute little park. Walk to the river. Boat ramp very close. Didn't use the bath house so can't review that. The camp host was a very nice man, Bill. The sites are WIDE. Love that. Lots of trees. Very cozy. If you have a TT or 5er you could have issues. The sites are pull-in only and there isn't a lot of space before you're up against the woods. Also the camp ground is close to a state road. Noise is not a problem at night but pretty well used road during the day. We'll definitely come back!
