For Buffalo Lake NWR: Open, $2 a night. Wonderful views and the cleanest pit toilets around. Signs say the gate auto closes 6pm to 8am. 20ish campsites, not super level for our 40'bus conversion...nbd. Dry sites! Bring solar panels and plenty of water.

For Buffalo Lake NWR: We did not stay here but did visit the Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge on June, 1 2021. There was no one at the Wildlife entrance only a sign in sheet. The road to the campground was barricaded. Make of that what you will. But it appears to be shut down....possibly for Covid.

For Buffalo Lake NWR: Nice small campground, somewhat tightly place sites. I was the only one at the campground so it didn’t really matter to me. The refuge is dry and extremely little wildlife to be found. Can’t beat $2 for camping or free with NP pass. 3/22/19

For Buffalo Lake NWR: Mid March 2017- very quiet, at 6:16 pm I'm the only one here. this is semi-dispersed camping. There are no numbers, but it is obvious where each spot is due to fencing. My spot is fairly level. There are picnic tables at most spots sitting on a cement slab. The "grass" appears to be mowed at each spot. Watch out for low hanging branches. Most spots have a tree close enough to rub larger RV roofs. No hookups but there are vault toilets. Lots of meadowlarks singing, and several other birds. The lake is dry due to the Ogallalla Aquifer being low for years. There is at least one windmill providing water in an earthen container. There are hikes for birders, steady light breeze most of the day.
