Elma

For Floyd Bennett Field - Gateway National Rec Area: Would be nice to to have a few more supplies in the Camping Store. Drinks, like crystal light, power drink. Chips dip, pretzels.

Cindyb

For Floyd Bennett Field - Gateway National Rec Area: Previous reviews regarding entry with an RV avoiding parkways are definitely true. Coming in over cross bay bridge thru Rockaway is easiest way in. There is airport noise & NYPD helicopter training to deal with. Access to NYC via ferry from Rockaway was very convenient. No issues regarding safety but it does feel quite isolated-you are basically camping on the runway of an abandoned municipal as l airport.

Pajunk

For Floyd Bennett Field - Gateway National Rec Area: So there is few positive and negative things.
positive - nice and clean showers with hot water, clean toilets and it is pretty close to NY. you can go to 108street and get ferry to NY wall street for $3 only and it goes each hour. parking on 108st for free or $8/day on parking lot.
negative - mosquito situation out off control!!!! do not take side on the grass by the bush. take concrete with bench and be happy for it. Follow gps to get in and signs by the road. it is not so difficult.

Bill

For Floyd Bennett Field - Gateway National Rec Area: It is what it is. No water, no electricity, no dump site. Often hard to find staff who are volunteers. There is a shower near office with four stalls and flush toilets, and there are "jerry cans" near tent camping and rv parking. To get here, trust your gps. DO NOT TRY TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE WEBSITE! We speak from experience. You may see some indications on the web that the site is in "Kings." It is in Brooklyn. Lots of tolls which you cannot avoid. Some may be stiff. Take public transit in the city. It is almost impossible to find a parking place and traffic is horrific. Good connections by bus and subway into Manhattan. To find the campground after entering off Flatbush avenue take the first left and then the first right toward a big yellow building. Campsite is beside the building.Location is poorly marked by signs. The location is good and the price is right, if you can handle the dry camping.
