For Hickory Hill - Lake Thunderbird State Park: The beach front sites my family reserved for two nights turned into a nightmare! First, the two lake front sites we reserved had trash in both fire pits and on the grounds. The grass had more weeds than grass and needed mowing desperately. The camp host was definitely not involved with maintenance, the camp hosts site looked like something out of the Beverly Hillbillies, no pride in ownership. There is not a path for other campers to walk to the lake shore so everyone walks through our two camp sites. Our privacy was nonexistent. The park ranger ended up getting involved which escalated the situation even further. The park ranger was rude, coming to our two sites armed with no sense of humor. This could have all been rectified if a path was available in between camp sites or one of the lake front sites was setup for beach users. My family was throughly disgusted with how this park is managed and will NEVER return!

For Hickory Hill - Lake Thunderbird State Park: Hickory Hill at Lake Thunderbird Stat Park has the potential to be a really nice park however we were very disappointed with some of the things that shouldn’t be acceptable in a state park. The sites are way to close together. When I say this I am referring to the layout of the sites. The neighbor to the left of us lite the campfire which was directly under our kitchen window and less than six feet causing our carbon dioxide sensor to go off several times. These fire rings could be moved to the back of the site. The barbecue grill was completely rusted out on the bottom making it useless. The worst part of the stay was being parked next to the camp host. They were very nice and friendly however their 5th wheel is very run down. They had an RV fridge sitting outside their door that must have gone out, 5+ storage tubs under and behind their 5th wheel, trash laying all over the place, window unit hanging out the window. The bathrooms were nasty! Dogs were allowed in the park which was a positive for us however NO one picked up their dogs poop! The trees are overgrown and hanging so low the they hit the roof of our RV. I wouldn’t recommend this SP. We have stayed at several Oklahoma State Parks and have enjoyed the others. Hickory Hill needs to be cleaned up!
