I wish to say thanks to the Kaibab Forestry people for doing a amazing job of providing camp areas that are cleared level and cleared of rocks. Even the logging roads are accessible by car. Many have grassed areas for tents. Many offices seem to tolerate campers.

It is well used with easy access-from the freeway and an hour to Grand Canyon. Mid week we drove in about 4 miles and spotted many flat areas and some big enough for family groups. Quiet until the 4 wheelers roar around. Like bikers they all love the noise that frightens all the wildlife. Midges were a bother in June.

Beautiful dispersed camping on Dogtown Road. Lots of places along gravel road (good for all but big rigs). Abundant pines, stars, fire rings, downed wood). Faint trains passing in night through Williams AZ and just 1.5 hours from South Rim of Grand Canyon. Temperature difference was >30 degrees difference between Interstate 40 and site (96 degrees vs. 65 degrees, respectively). What a wonderful evening in the woods, out of the heat and star gazing.

We were headed for the Grand Canyon, and found it sold out (luckily called first), and the independent places wall to wall people. The very nice ranger from Kaibab Lake (closed 10/1 for season) gave us great advice on where to dump & fill before we headed just a few miles out of town to the best camping experience... quiet, with plenty of free firewood. We ended up stayin 3 nights because it was so peaceful.
