For Mariposa Recreation Area: Beautiful park with lots of picnic spots and tent camping. No camping places to park an RV or trailer, tent camping only.

For Mariposa Recreation Area: My favorite nearby getaway. As a weekender, (since 2015) I often spend several nights at Mariposa in my 22 ft class A. There are no hookups, but water is available if you carry it in jerry cans. No dump station, but one is available at the truck stop in Newton about 10 miles away. Mariposa has a small lake and about a half mile of walking trails. The park is well maintained. There are about 15 campsites, half of which are tent camping only. Mariposa county park is very lightly used for camping. Often, I'm the only one there. Note: generators are prohibited so plan accordingly. Although the lake is a favorite fishing spot for locals, no boating of any kind is allowed. (not even a kayak) This helps keep the park quiet and peaceful. Campsites are grass. No gravel or paved pads. Each site has a fire ring and there are plenty of trashcans scattered throughout the area. There are pit latrine toilets but no modern amenities. Each campsite is large. I'd guess about the size of 10 or 12 regular RV park sites-maybe more. Even if the park is busy, you'll likely be at least 75 feet from your nearest neighbor. The park officer patrols regularly and is a super nice guy. He tells me that the campground only fills up twice a year. Labor day and Memorial day. The county now charges $7/night to camp. Stays are limited to 14 days. In my opinion, Mariposa is much superior to Rock Creek state park which is about 15 miles to the east. I highly recommend Mariposa if you want to spend some quiet time away from the RV park scene. Give it a try if you are in the area. If you try it and decide that it isn't your cup of tea, there are several regular/traditional RV parks within 10-12 miles so you aren't locked in.
