For Mills Canyon Rim Campground: Stayed 3 nights in May during Covid. Beautiful, rugged and remote. Great vistas and sunsets. We had rain but roads never seemed to be at issue. Would have to think about drive into canyon if rain. Vault toilets were closed but lappeared to be newer. Campsites were really nice and screened from each other. Forest Service contact said dispersed camping allowed if campsites were full. Plenty of locations where I would be comfortable setting up. Popular with four wheel and dirt bike folks.

For Mills Canyon Rim Campground: We stayed four nights at the “Rim” CG in a truck camper. The road back to the campground consists of very little gravel and mostly dirt that turns to mud during rain. When it is dry, although rough, it would be suitable for a passenger vehicle. When mud I would recommend only high clearance, if not 4x4 vehicle. There is no water and only a vault toilet. I am giving it a two because of the fact is isn’t an easy access and when you get back there don’t be surprised to see it consumed by locals who take the campsites and park trailers, trucks , with very few of them having RVs or tents. They seemed to want the campground to themselves. We stayed at one of the horse stall unloading parking spots, one of two of them. Next morning someone had moved their pick up to the second one. We had no problems with anyone there and felt safe. Just be prepared to turnaround and camp elsewhere. We stayed 4 nights.
