For Springer Lake Wildlife Area - NMDGF: OK place to stop for the night, but not much more. The lake is pretty and the views are good, but the area right around the lake isn't particularly lovely. Still, if you're driving through and want a place to stop for the night where you'll wake up to a nice view, this fills the bill.

For Springer Lake Wildlife Area - NMDGF: Ok, I'm giving this 2 stars because the camping area is free but far from good. We decided to check it out for the night and (as usual) we were driving there after dark. Shortly after turning down the road that the "campground " was on we saw the glow from the lights ahead. Turns out the lights were from a state prison. The info said boys school, I think they meant bad boys bad boys what you gonna do school! At any rate right after the bad boys school the road turned to dirt. The camping area was a wide open dirt area by a boat ramp with the distant glow of the "boys school". We saw several signs saying not to pick up hitchhikers but none that said no camping. Needless to say we didn't stay.
