For Petrified Forest Gift Shop: I stayed at the lot on the east side near the east gift shop. The gift shop on the east side of the road was closed. It is free to drive camp here. On the west side, there's another gift shop which was open, and they have a few camping spots with electricity. When I was there in September 2022 they said it was $25 plus tax a night. Since I have solar, I didn't need electricity and I stayed on the free east side. I thought it was great. They had a little ramadas that you could park next to and a few picnic tables. There was a dumpster for garbage but no other amenities. But for free, I thought it was great. I was on my way to the Albuquerque balloon fiesta and this was a perfect stopover spot. It was quiet and people were coming and going so sometimes it was full and other times they were only a few people. I'm very grateful that they offer this for free. I stayed a couple of nights and went through the park on one of the days and then I continued on my journey to Albuquerque.

For Petrified Forest Gift Shop: Arrived about 30 mins before Gift shop closed. Nice lady helped me in store $15 for electric only. Nice level spots and quiet. 2 miles from Petrified Forest National Park entrance.

For Petrified Forest Gift Shop: Arrived at this site right before sunset in mid-November. The gift shops (one on each side of the road) were closed. The gift shop on the east side seems to have been closed permanently. On that side, there are 5 plug in sites for those needing electricity. Appeared to be on a first come first served based, and might be free but I didn't check since we're fully powered with solar. There were a few vans parked at the back of the lot and a number of signs indicating where you can/cannot park or camp. No tents seemed to be the consensus as there are no restrooms. There were other spots on the west side, but didn't fully check that area out. We weren't sure where to park and with no one working at the time, we ended up pulling to the south side of the parking lot among a field of petrified wood and cars that have been parked there for what looked like a decade. Overall, not a bad spot for one night given that it was free, and we drove into the Petrified Forest as soon as it opened. Being able to camp right at the entrance is great because you can go in early and enjoying the scenery sans people (not that it's that busy).

For Petrified Forest Gift Shop: Difficult to review. Arrived on Saturday afternoon. (Gift shop lot). Went inside of the shop to pay. I'm totally self contained with solar so off grid and didn't need electric. Parked on the south side of the lot by the trees so not too require disconnecting the toad. The lady was very nice and I had called ahead. She said if I didn't need electric and wouldn't run the generator, there was no charge if I'd buy from the store. I purchased over $30 of nice things. I said I would be two days leaving Monday. Nice night Saturday. Quiet. Alone. Sunday about 5pm some other woman comes by and tells me I need to leave. If I'm not using electric I can't stay and run my generator (haven't started it in almost a month). After discussion, she says she didn't know I had offered to pay and that "lots of people" apparently work here. After explaining several times about solar and no generator use and prior permission Saturday she finally agreed to let me stay until Monday. I felt violated because I was more than happy to pay, even not using the electric. Also I did as directed and happily patronized the store. Nice easy access and nice store. Quiet nights. Too bad about the one gruff woman.
