For Montgomery Bell State Park: We travel with a 18 foot Winnebago travel trailer. The sites were level, and wall tight, they were arranged in such a way that you didn’t see each other closely. There are multiple sites along the river, some with full hook ups. The shower and bath facilities were very nice. Attached to the state park is walking trail, small river, as well as areproduction of a chapel and a cabin from the 1800s. Beautiful.

For Montgomery Bell State Park: We stayed here for a few days on our way to Virginia Beach. It was over the weekend in early April and the campground was full. Being full-time RV’s we have stayed in many places good and bad. This park is very nice, well maintained and the sites are level and well marked. They are a little close but they are laid out in such away that it doesn’t seem crowded. They have good utilities in a beautiful setting. The park surrounding the campground is very large with a lot of amenities. There is a restaurant on site that is reasonable with excellent food. Would definitely recommend this campground and would stay here again.

For Montgomery Bell State Park: We stayed just 1 night while passing through. Site 74. Roads are narrow, made worse by haphazard parking.the sites are really packed together, which is unfortunate given that the park is so large. Not much grass; it looks like what there was has been washed away. Trails were pretty but highly eroded, making for treacherous footing.

For Montgomery Bell State Park: I would give Montgomery Bell SP 4-5 stars for the beauty. Nice woods and hiking trails. As for the facilities, they are the reason for the downgrade to 3 stars. Facilities are old and in need of updating. Interior campground roads are not in very good condition, some narrow sections and a tight turn or two but doable in our 36’ MH. Cleanliness is ok, things are just worn here. Park staff is very friendly. Some sites are way too close together and some of the creek side full hookup sites are spacious and nicely laid out. Stayed here off season and it was fairly quiet. Would stay here again but would be picky about which site and would not stay during the regular season due to all the reviews mentioning noise and crowds.

James

For Montgomery Bell State Park: Mike and Cheryl here. We have a 44 foot Class A RV. Here is my review of the campground at Montgomery Bell. Getting to the campground is all on good roads. The roads in the campground are paved and in good condition. There are a few narrow turns but doable. The campground registration office was open and everyone were friendly. There is no camp store but the campground is close to town. Firewood is available to buy. There is a large area for parking while checking in. Our site was 108, a back in site facing the creek with a fire pit and picnic table. Our site was level. The site was dry. The campground has no seasonal folks but there are lots of big families here and lots of loud noisy children. The bath house is OK. Laundry was basic looking. There is no recreational center. There is a lodge with a restaurant but it did not look very inviting. There is no pool and the swimming area at the lake is not nice. No cable TV service. Wifi was not working for the whole two weeks. With our antenna, no over the air TV channels. Our campsite was not peaceful. Other campers would come down to the creek to party. No hwy noise, but the children were constantly yelling. There are several sites along the creek. All look nice. Our site was large and spacious. We would probably not come back, for two reasons. There is not enough for us to do at the park and the campground was simply average. Dream Big, Travel Far, Live Well..

For Montgomery Bell State Park: Some sites are extremely close. Our camp fire set directly on our neighbors spot. Luckily no one was there! We camped at site 118 along the creek.

For Montgomery Bell State Park: We’re finishing up our third night here. Quiet now, but last night this place was a zoo. Tents and campers on every square inch. Felt like we were sharing a picnic table with the folks next door. This a beautiful park with lots to do. The camp sites are level and the one by the creek are full hookup. They’re the best ones. I Three bathhouses seem nice. One has laundry. Cell phone service is strong. Nice place when the place isn’t packed.
