For Wilderness State Park: Preferred the sparsely populated Pines CG to the more popular lakefront sites. Very quiet, exceptionally clean. Outstanding October weather

For Wilderness State Park: We stayed in the Pines section (backing to the woods) for 4 nights around Labor Day and really enjoyed the park and campground. Everything was very clean and relatively quiet for such a busy weekend. The bike and hiking trails are very close as well as the beach. Walking the beach out towards Waygoshance point was very beautiful and secluded. Also enjoyed the sand dunes in southern part of the park. We hope to come back soon and often God-willing.

GS

For Wilderness State Park: Crowded. Spots very close together and dogs barking all the time. No one seems to care. Spots along lake are nice and exterior spots are ok but DO NOT go for an interior spot or you will have neighbors 4 feet on each side and a neighbor right behind you as well.

For Wilderness State Park: Stayed with our class a motor home in the Pines loop which is the other side of the county road from the beach camping loops. Since we stayed here in October it was probably a good thing to be away from the frigid lake wind. Typical mich state park campground feel with decent sized spaces. Some of the beachfront spaces are very small but you get Lake Michigan in your backyard. Looks like they are doing some improvements. Good hiking trails. Very few sites with full hookups but all rv sites do have electric.

For Wilderness State Park: We stayed in the Pines section. We are not the city camping type so it was not our cup of tea at all. Very crowded, loud, dogs unattended and whining and barking 12+ hours per day. Total mayhem. If you really want to stay here I recommend the lakeside loops, very different vibe there .

MidMichHunter

For Wilderness State Park: Stayed in sites E & F in Aug. easy in and out. Site E was nicer, on the lake side vs. road side and a clear line for our satellite to get a signal, in Site F the trees were too heavy. Not a big deal, but worth noting. Sites are small but not problem backing the 36’ Class A in. Got to experience a nice sunset on the beach which was a 2 minute walk from our site. The only down fall, and it’s a big one, is the roads in. As others have stated, they suck. We entered both from the north, Mackinaw City, and the south from Levering, the north route wasn’t as bad, but the roads needs to be fixed as they resulted in this park only getting 4 stars.
