Odd Maine Attractions and Places

Many people travel to Maine for vacation; there is plenty to see and do on the normal tourism routes, however, Maine also has some unique attractions which will set your vacation apart. Sure, you could do the usual things and visit Maine’s jagged coastline, but why do what everyone else in Maine will be doing? Plan your vacation well and you will get to see some very unique sites.

The first stop for horror fans who visit Maine will be in Bangor. You can actually walk by and see Stephen King’s house, a unique Victorian. The house seems to fit the bill for King nicely. Painted blood red, with a bat-and-spider-web-themed gate, it seems from the street to be King’s House of Usher. Lovely though it is, the house evokes a sense of the macabre that King clearly revels in. Stop by and take a photo, but remember, this is someone’s home.

For a cup of Joe while in Maine, visit Udder House, which is located at 156 Pleasant Street, Brunswick, Maine. The quaint building is special and worth a visit because of the giant cow that sits in a giant coffee cup on the peak of the building. Visiting this coffee shop will give you ample photo opportunity to catch the twelve-foot-tall sculpture on film, not to mention, you will be served a hot, delicious cup of the good stuff.

For an interesting stop, one can visit another famous house, the wedding cake house in Kennebunk, Maine. The house was built for a captain who was shipped off to sea and was unable to enjoy wedding cake with his love, so was made to resemble a wedding cake. American Gothic Revival is the style that the house is built in. For architecture fans, this house is one that will stay in your mind once you’re long gone.

In Maine, there are some truly unique ‘houses.’ Whether you are a book, film, or architecture fan, you will find something to enjoy in Maine. Coffee lovers will also be enthused as their caffeine fix will be fulfilled. Enjoy the sights and the houses of Maine on your next trip.
