CAMPING IN WEATHER: HOT OR COLD

You Can Camp in All Kinds of Weather

Camping is not just for summer anymore. Camping is fast becoming a year-round activity. And while you usually plan camping trips with hopes of good weather, severe weather always is a possibility any time of the year. But you can still enjoy it if you are prepared. Stay positive and enjoy what mother nature throws at you instead of getting upset by what you can't control. You can control how you prepare however.

Camping in the heat or the cold

When you pack up to go camping, keep a eye on the weather. Also remember that elevation can affect your trip dramatically. It is very easy to head out in warm weather and find yourself up a few thousand feet and shivering. You can still find snow well into June on many mountains. We have gone from 90 degree days to camping in snow at night in Arizona, California and Colorado.

Pack long sleeve shirts, a sweatshirt and a jacket. And it's good to have an extra blanket. Layers are easier to control than one super warm sleeping bag or coat. With multiple layers you can adjust to a comfortable level and still enjoy your camping experience. A hooded sweatshirt is most useful for it's warmth and the handy hood to protect your ears from a cold mountain wind, which you can encounter day or night.

Have a white or tan long sleeve shirt. A light colored shirt is more effective at keeping the body cooler than a short sleeve
