Plotting places on a map is the greatest challenge of all in anything that uses a map. This app will be right most of the time but it will be wrong a certain percentage of the time. If there is a street address, first we send this to Google to get coordinates for the map. This seems to be about 85% accurate. Some street names are vague, and some are often renamed by some big brand. And some places like Flying J / Pilot provide exact GPS coordinates that are still wrong a certain amount of the time. Then they are manually checked with satellite views.
For most National Parks, National Forests, State Parks, Army Corps and public lands, we take directions from the official places and then go to satellite views and try to find the spot as close as possible. This is months and months of painstaking work done by hand and eyesight. The point is usually a road nearby where you could be already following the signs. Or possibly a visitor center or ranger station. Although mostly accurate, sometimes we can only get so close if we start with vague directions. You'll have to keep an eye out for signs. Biggest issue right now is some BLM listings that plot the field office. This may be in a small town miles away from the actual campground. Those are being fixed.
Rest Stops have been closing and opening with the winds of budgets in some states. Some states like Arizona close them and open them on busier weekends and holidays. So it's hard to call one open or close for certain. I try to list them all and add comments as I can get real information.
