It's that time of year again! Mardis Gras will be here in no time at all and while I don't know about you, I'm ready! However I'm not heading to New Orleans this year. I have other plans…
Each year the Carnival de Venice wows visitors with the masks and outfits and every year I wish I was there in the crowd, dressed in my gown and feathered mask. This year I will be and I am literally shaking with excitement.
This year Carnival is from Feb. 14th – Feb. 24th. Valentines Day! I can't imagine a more romantic Valentines day than a trip to Italy. The hubby actually planned this vacation for me as my Valentines day gift. Ladies… be jealous! He's one of a kind and I don't have any intention of sharing.
There are a series of events and performances during Carnival. All of them can be found on the official Carnivale de Venezia website . Just take a peek at the calendar and you'll see what I mean. If you end up bored at Carnival you're a looney toon. There is so much to see and do you actually need to pick and choose which events to attend. I have every intention of being completely exhausted by the end of my trip to the point where I need a vacation just to recover from my vacation. But isn't that the way it always goes? If you come back from a trip to any of the Carnival celebrations anywhere in the world and aren't exhausted you did something wrong.
Even if you don't make it to Venice for Carnival this year there are several other locations around the world that will be in on the celebration. If you're in the USA one of the most obvious is certainly New Orleans. The Mardi Gras celebration that takes place there every year is wild and festive. You'll see things there that will stick with you for the rest of your life. Trust me on this… you'll never forget celebrating Mardis Gras in Louisiana. I certainly haven't but that's a story for another day…
The Rio de Janeiro Carnival is another celebration definitely worth the visit. The Samba School Parades are spectacular. The parades themselves attract thousands from all around the world. I think I know where I'm heading to celebrate next year!
So how about you? If you could celebrate Mardi Gras anywhere in the world where would it be?
