When you plug your RV power cord in at a hookup, the cord will most likely be touching the ground and exposed to all kinds of elements. When it’s time to move on, you pull the cord in and place it back in your electrical compartment along with everything it picked up with it. Dirt, dust, leaves, water, maybe even a bug or two, all get put inside your RV and travel down the road with you to the next stop. Your hands also get dirty when you both take it out and put it away.
One way of minimizing this problem is to recylce an old sock or rag in the compartment. You can then run the cord through the cloth as you put it away, keeping both your hands and the compartment clean. If you place the end of the power cord on or in the (dry, not wet) cloth material, it will make an easy way of finding it on your next hookup in the dark. Just grab for the white clump of cloth and you have the end of your power cord.
Do you have any other tips for keeping your compartment and power cord clean?

I keep extra plastic bags in the compartment and run the cord through those before eventually disposing of them at a grocery store recycle bin.
Wear cloth or leather gloves and run the cord, and hoses thru the gloves,,,holding the cord tightly to remove the dirt and leaves from the cord prior to it getting inside the storage compartment. Leave the gloves in the compartment. Then you use the same ones over and over.

I absolutely love your tips, Sherry and John! I’m going to use those in the future.
