Top Modern Vampire Cities in the World

A Very Recent Vampire History

With the waves of vampire tales over the last few decades, it seems like a good time to look at where the modern day action is these days. I love ghost stories so this topic is also of great interest to me. Whether you are just interested in vampyres or if you may actually be a vampyre, there are some cool places to visit and find others of your kind. And by the way, there are two spellings for a number of reasons depending on which particular angle you believe in. First off, I should mention Forks, Washington as the setting for the popular “Twilight” book series as well as New Orleans for the classic novels of Anne Rice. Forks is one of the rainiest cities around and that made it a great choice for the series. It has also revived the small town. The Forks chamber of commerce is taking advantage of all the attention.

The subject of vampires can still be a very serious matter, especially in small localities where vampire superstition is still strong and sightings or claims of vampire attacks still occur frequently. Some stories still make headlines such as in Romania where a family recently dug up a corpse, tore out the heart, burned it, and mixed the ashes with water in order to drink it. Or near Venice, Italy where a 16th century corpse was recently discovered with a brick in her mouth. Now known in news stories as the Venice vampire, this tactic would cause the vampire to starve and not be a shroud eater.

The Vampyre and Numbers

Just because a book series is set somewhere does not mean that there are actually a bunch of vampires running around the streets. Fans and tourists yes. So I took a look at the actual numbers of population, clubs, groups and cult sites in the world and came up with this non-scientific list. This is the modern world so I’m not including Transylvania or Slovakia. There just isn’t the numbers to support vampire activity in those particular places any longer. I’m not including Wall Street either, which hosts another form of blood sucker these days that are not nearly as much fun.

So there you have my list. Do you know of any bloody hotspots that I missed? I’m sure some of the best aren’t plastered all over the internet and they shouldn’t be either to retain any sort of realism. The photos are all taken by myself, as part of my own dark interests, in various Eastern Europe locations.

  • liz

  • Ashleigh Faith

I’ll be in Romania for three weeks doing “research” so If I come across anymore hotspots I’ll let ya know. : )

  • ashley

Great pictures, but honestly do these cities have vampires?

    • Adam

Thanks for the comment on the pictures.

It depends on who you are and your point of view if these cities have real vampires. Some people would ask if a vampire exist at all. Others would say that these are places where a lot people just believe they are vampires. Others would say that they just like to pretend to be one and like the culture. A list like this takes all of those things into account. If you are one or like to be one, you’re more likely to find others like you in these places.

  • ashley

awesome!! thanks for the reply :)

  • holly

i live in one of these cities yet i havent seen anything close to a vampire… i know a few of my friends like to pretend but i noe their human so how can u actually tell? and nice pix ^.^

    • Vasilisa

Things like that are hard to tell. And Hollywood definatly ruins a vampyre’s good name.. Garlic doesn’t affect us, and I am in the sun all day, my eye’s are just sensitive.. So honestly, if it is something that wants to be hidden… it can be!

  • Andrea

This is interesting, I was just in Chicago and you are quite right about that… Try Paris, France?

  • ashley

i would say that nobody is going to find a vampire, i am sure that they dont want to be found, cause what would happen then? Besides what is a vampire going to want with a human anyway? If there are really infact real vampires out there, i think that they do a good job blending with the rest of society and thats why they havent been discovered. There are many pretenders out there who think they are or act like vampires, i would think that the real vampires would tend to look like normal people and not atract to much attention in the attire that they choose. This is just my opinion….

    • Anonymous

Well for one thing.. there is a thing called human blood and vampires love it but on the other thing a vampire would live in a place that wasn’t always sunny! People seem to forget the fact that vampires like the cloudy over cast days! I have done my own research!!!!

  • Dave

Hi aggree with you on the attire but that could still b blending in inda weird how everything works.

  • ashley

yeah thats true… i guess nobody will ever really know… all we have is our opinions and perceptions to go on.

  • sandra

hey how can u be like one

  • Maybe all you naysayers haven’t been looking in the right places. We are all around you. and many of us look just like you.I am a psi-vamp and a (wiccan) witch. • Jesper

I don’t know if i believe in vampires.. I find it very hard to convince myself that vampires exist. If you are 466/467 years old now, how would you prove it? :)

Don’t take this the wrong way, i’m just trying to convince myself.. I don’t want to offend people or anything. Just trying to find answers

  • Nicole

very nice places & pictures. but define vampire. seriously. theres alot of pretenders, & people who like to get fake things like fangs. give me the definition, & i’ll put a pic of me next to it XD theres no way of knowing.

  • Shelley

What about South Africa? I bet somewhere here there must be legends?

  • Marielle Ann

i really like the pictures and stories that all of you’ve got about vampires and i’m so proud of you guys

  • Christy

What would you consider to be a vampire? The immortal kind that can’t be in sunlight, people who dress Gothic, Sanguineous, or…? Would you consider New Orleans to be a vampire region? Thanks for the pictures and articles, too, nicely done.

  • Emily

What ever happened to new orleans ?
    the anne rice hotspot ?

  • Jessica

We are everywhere these days. I am a real Sang vampire which means i drink blood, there are ALOT in New Orleans, New York, California, everywhere in Romania, and the UK.

If you want to know more please email me on: jessica_feldman@live(dot)co(dot)uk

We are sometimes hard to spot as it depends on how much or little blood we drink. The less blood we drink the normal our skin colour, or it could go the other way and drink alot of blood the paler you get.

Bye all and i am happy to answer any questions via email

  • Medeina

Ohh, You really don’t know nothing about Europe ;) Eastern especially… Why the hell should vampire cities be mostly in America when originally vampires are from Eastern and Central Europe? This list is so silly and childish! You people need to get to know the world NOT just your beloved USA. There are so many mysterious things to find you can’t imagine….

    • Adam

There are many great Eastern and Central Europe cities that should be on the list. This kind of list is more about volume. Way too many people in the USA and multiplying in some of these cities. A lot of it is just interest and clubs as well which inflates the numbers.

When are you humans ever going to understand the truth, Vampires are not afraid of the sun altough their abit photo sensitive and their skin dont take well to being sun burned, hence myth number one vamps are pale, not cause were dead!!! Yes we do crave drinking blood but now and days vamps have come so far as to settle for substitues like animal blood and some even settle for even developed away of feeding of human, animal and nature’s energy/life force instead of drinking blood, so we have evolved, not some mindless beasts running around sucking every human we find dry!! And yes vamps dont want to be found due to the stupid superstitions that they have been labeled as. And no their not scared of garlic and crosses and holi water and do not sleep in coffins and altough some can grow to hundereds of years old, their not immortal. So please stop with this insane myths and fantacies about vampires and leave them alone!!

  • sindicat de la nit

The city of Valencia (Spain) is one of the Vampire cities in Europe. Please include it in the list.

  • Anonymous

I don’t believe that the myths originated from Eastern Europe, the myths may have originated from China. I’m not saying that vampires do exist, but I’m not saying that they don’t either.

  • Jordon

really wants to know if this stuff is even real at all…. were is the prof and the truth.. High Priestess Char??

  • Anonymous

vampires go back as far as egyptain times so no one can truly say where they have originated from….

  • Anonymous

Okay so yall believe that Vampire are real. Seriously REALLY? People that only come out at night and drink human blood? All make believe to me! I mean I love watching Vampire movies and reading novels and things like that. Sounds great. But everyone knows it not real people seriously.

  • Ellie

Ok this isn’t so much about vampires just supernatural as a whole, I live in a small town quite far out from London but it set on top of many ley lines from what I’ve found at the library. I live on the outskirts of a wood and the area was previously damaged during ww2, this has left many crators and areas that the people of my town just simply stay away from, it seems to give off a bad atmosphere and I understand. I recently went deep into the woods and I found things sacrificial things, fire pit, bones and thats not it, the summer equinox recently passed in March and I could hear things from the woods at 3.00am – this is supposedly the time when death is awake in the world – screams, howls, shouts and I had no idea what was going on. During the heavy snowfall in december there was tracks in the woods and not normal tracks they went through the bomb crators as they’ve come to be called, so even if they were small enough to be dog tracks people don’t tend to travel through there. I live in england so no wolves, no bears but I have a pretty good understanding of animal anatomy and I still throught these tracks were too big to even be bears. I’ve recently been reading a few vampire fiction books and to be honest I never really considered it before but things have been going on, weird things but I feel like I’m the only one who has noticed anything the town carries on as normal but its not normal and another thing the woods is silent, no bird song. Any ideas?

One thing you should now about us is that pretty much every thing about us that hollywood TV shows & moveis about us or vampires is false. To a degree the sensitivity to light is true however we do not turn to ash when sun light hits us.

  • LOCA G

I don’t believe they exist. If they did then what do they think of shows like True Blood?

  • Volstrauss Icar

I’m 466 yr.s old if you factor in that I was 21 yr.s old when I was turned in 1566. I was born in 1545.

  • Brian

I believe Vampires are just like human whom deserves the rights to be respected, love & concern by all. Nobody chose to becomes a vampire anyway unless they watched too many vamp movies.Human suffers so does vamps so i dun see the point of telling too many things to us humans as you know it that we will never gonna understand it & will persue you for more Q&A.I have make so many friends in my life that who knows, some of them can be even vamps, but i dun care,i respect all my friends for who they are and not what they are. For those humans who think vamps dun exist, then what makes you think God exist? Any Vamps/Human who wishes to be a friend of mine are welcome to add me on Facebook,my email is cdmbrian@gmail.com

    Cheers,

  • Sean

All of thr places that were listed, most of them are ok. But nowhere, was New Orleans. I have hunted here, for over 142 years, and unfortunatly, this city of death is thr “mecca” for thr undead. Seeing what was written only makes me realize that there is so much more outthere, they just don’t get!
Purhapse your blessed not to see.

  • Cre :)

Hey im writing a book, about vampires and some other creatures, i need some good cities n a lil back ground info on them . My book the vamps there arent gonna be protrayed as evil, they can be , but most of the time they arent, n they feed off of other things besides humans, n the vampire so to saycome out of the closet and walk beside the humans n peace, even tho very known n then u have ur humans vs, every other crature wars . jus need some cool vamp cities with history :)
my goal is not to make vamps look so evil but still have that edge to them so people wont be sticking their nose n their stuff
