A Very Recent Vampire History
With the waves of vampire tales over the last few decades, it seems like a good time to look at where the modern day action is these days. I love ghost stories so this topic is also of great interest to me. Whether you are just interested in vampyres or if you may actually be a vampyre, there are some cool places to visit and find others of your kind. And by the way, there are two spellings for a number of reasons depending on which particular angle you believe in. First off, I should mention Forks, Washington as the setting for the popular “Twilight” book series as well as New Orleans for the classic novels of Anne Rice. Forks is one of the rainiest cities around and that made it a great choice for the series. It has also revived the small town. The Forks chamber of commerce is taking advantage of all the attention.
The subject of vampires can still be a very serious matter, especially in small localities where vampire superstition is still strong and sightings or claims of vampire attacks still occur frequently. Some stories still make headlines such as in Romania where a family recently dug up a corpse, tore out the heart, burned it, and mixed the ashes with water in order to drink it. Or near Venice, Italy where a 16th century corpse was recently discovered with a brick in her mouth. Now known in news stories as the Venice vampire, this tactic would cause the vampire to starve and not be a shroud eater.

The Vampyre and Numbers
Just because a book series is set somewhere does not mean that there are actually a bunch of vampires running around the streets. Fans and tourists yes. So I took a look at the actual numbers of population, clubs, groups and cult sites in the world and came up with this non-scientific list. This is the modern world so I’m not including Transylvania or Slovakia. There just isn’t the numbers to support vampire activity in those particular places any longer. I’m not including Wall Street either, which hosts another form of blood sucker these days that are not nearly as much fun.

So there you have my list. Do you know of any bloody hotspots that I missed? I’m sure some of the best aren’t plastered all over the internet and they shouldn’t be either to retain any sort of realism. The photos are all taken by myself, as part of my own dark interests, in various Eastern Europe locations.

Nice piece. I like the photos you took. Where was the shot taken with all the skulls?
Thank you. It was at a small church outside of Prague, Czech Republic
hey thanks a lot Ive been at this for a while you helped me a lot , and nice pictures , your talented with a good eye!!!
I’ll be in Romania for three weeks doing “research” so If I come across anymore hotspots I’ll let ya know. : )
Great pictures, but honestly do these cities have vampires?
Thanks for the comment on the pictures.
It depends on who you are and your point of view if these cities have real vampires. Some people would ask if a vampire exist at all. Others would say that these are places where a lot people just believe they are vampires. Others would say that they just like to pretend to be one and like the culture. A list like this takes all of those things into account. If you are one or like to be one, you’re more likely to find others like you in these places.
awesome!! thanks for the reply
i live in one of these cities yet i havent seen anything close to a vampire… i know a few of my friends like to pretend but i noe their human so how can u actually tell? and nice pix ^.^
This is interesting, I was just in Chicago and you are quite right about that… Try Paris, France?
i would say that nobody is going to find a vampire, i am sure that they dont want to be found, cause what would happen then? Besides what is a vampire going to want with a human anyway? If there are really infact real vampires out there, i think that they do a good job blending with the rest of society and thats why they havent been discovered. There are many pretenders out there who think they are or act like vampires, i would think that the real vampires would tend to look like normal people and not atract to much attention in the attire that they choose. This is just my opinion….
Hi aggree with you on the attire but that could still b blending in inda weird how everything works.
yeah thats true… i guess nobody will ever really know… all we have is our opinions and perceptions to go on.
hey how can u be like one
